sepTUNESber, day five

today is a fun one!
aaaand another multi-post day.

day five
"A Song That Reminds You of Someone"

so...since this is a pretty broad statement,
(someone. anyone. everyone!)
i picked two very special people.
let's start off with the youngest, shall we?

linc the stink.
my flee year old.
(that's 3 in linc speak)
he is so. freaking. awesome.
this kid has great taste in music, in my opinion, and it would seem that he holds a high regard for music just like me.
in fact, lincoln is so much like me it's almost scary...almost.

his likes, dislikes, mannerisms, everything is like me.
it's actually been quite helpful.

when lincoln was only 3 months old he hated riding in the car,
and it was obvious.
he would scream at the top of his lungs and i couldn't blame him because
i get car sick easily, too.

but then we realized that anytime this specific song came on he'd stop crying.
he'd be crying, crying, crying...put this song on and
BAM! happy baby.
so what did we do?
put it on repeat, obviously.
so what is this song you ask?
barney? veggie tales? sesame street?
no, no, no.
his taste in music is so awesome, his favorite song was/is:

Jason Mraz - I'm Yours

my kid is amazing
that right there shows there's no denying it.
anybody could listen to that on repeat.

----

my second person is my wonderful sister
and brings back an amazing memory.

now when we were kids, growing up together, we didn't always get along.
we're very different people and are still to this day, but when we were younger we weren't like most sisters.
best friends, inseparable.
but i'd like to think we've gotten closer over the years and this song is one of the reasons why.

when i was eighteen and my sister twenty-one, my parents gave us a trip to disneyland for christmas.
we were super excited, despite our ages, and happily
packed up for the trip.

our parents let us drive separately from them,
 (thank goodness!)
and we enjoyed each other's company the whole drive down to orlando.
and if she hasn't guessed it by now i'd be surprised,
but we had the time of our lives shouting this song at the top of our lungs.
windows down. sun shining. care free.

(sidenote: this was during that break with graham that i talked about yesterday, day four. so this song was doubly... memoryful...?
but mostly just makes me think of happy times with my sister!)

Dashboard Confessional -
Screaming Infidelities

oh, nostalgia.

happy labor day, everybody!!!

sepTUNESber, day four

so today's song may be showing a side of me that's a little embarrassing and vulnerable, but hey,
what are blogs for, right?

day four.
"A Song That Makes You Sad"

i'm going to give a little background story on this so you don't judge me based only on the song selection.

when i was eighteen, the hubs and i had been dating for two years and knew we wanted to get married.
we'd had our ups and downs and our breaks
(we were on a break!)
here and there, but i had known for a while this was it.
i was in it for the long haul.

unfortunately, there was this one issue.
this one nagging problem we couldn't seem to shake.
we'd get in a fight.
go on a break.
not be able to live without each other.
talk about it until the sun came up.
and start over.

but this time was different.
i couldn't take it anymore.
so i decided to break it off and thought i was going to actually have to move on this time.
be done and start over.
this crushed me.
and even though the lyrics are her begging for him back.
i knew this was just a wish. and i would have to move on, which made it hurt even worse.

so that being said...
 remember that i was eighteen.
and heartbroken.
and it was 2004.

pre - milly vanilly SNL shenanigans.
i know her voice isn't amazing. and the music isn't amazing, but the lyrics are what really resonated with me.
they're a little emo i admit, but i can still listen to this song and sing every word and feel it all over again.
there are times where i actually find myself crying if this song pops up in my shuffle mode and i don't change it.
tmi? oh well.

so the song i've chosen is...

Ashlee Simpson - Undiscovered

did you like the emo yelling at the end? i know you did.

obviously, the hubs and i made it through.
we were engaged 9 months later.
and still working on it.

see you tomates!

(tomates = tomorrow, don't ask.)

sepTUNESber, day three

ok guys, day three.
i'm really excited about today!
today's song is...
--drum roll please--

"A Song That Makes You Happy"
yay!

now, to say that musicals make me happy would just be stating the obvious.
at least for those of you who know me well.

but if you don't know me well....
i often times wish my life actually was a musical.
i am that annoying person who has a song for everything you say.

you: "yeah you know it really bothers me when suzie doesn't call me back..."
me:"cause everybody huuuuuuuurts! sometimessss...."
you catch my drift.

and i have interpretive dance moves for it, too.

if it were up to me, i'd live my day to day life singing, and dancing and laughing all my cares away.
everyone would know the words, harmonies and
background vocals to the song...
and the choreography i see in my head.

which brings us to my song choice for today.

Run & Tell That - Hairspray the Musical

i may or may not know all the words and dance moves to this song.
and i may or may not have seen the movie multiple times in theaters, seen the original movie, and been to the broadway show.
may...

I set you up with the subtitles on the bottom 'cause these lyrics are da bomb diggity.
yup i went there. run and tell that!

see you tomorrow!

sepTUNESber, day two

alright. it's day two.
let's get this over with.

"Your Least Favorite Song"

saying this is my least favorite song would be putting it mildly.
i hate this song.
i. loathe. this. song.
this song is like nails on a chalk board to me.

now i love me some fergie, really i do.
but i think she needs to stick to what she's good at.
teaching people how to spell glamorous,
{g - l - a - m - o - r - o u s, yeah}
and getting that boom boom boom.
(i mean she's got to. she says it.)

but fergs, honey, trying to sing a touching ballad just ain't doin' it for me.

not only is her voice horrible, but the lyrics. ugh! the lyrics.
and usually i'm not one to judge, but for some reason it just
 really gets under my skin.
the whole child missing their blanket thing...
agh! frustrates me just talking typing about it!

so without further ado, my least favorite song....
take it away fergs.
(along with my eardrums, which i am destined to rip out)

Fergie - Big Girls Don't Cry (Personal)

just so you know, i saved you from the "extended version".
you're welcome.

sepTUNESber, day one

well, hello there.
i'm back after a short hiatus.
let's just say, i got stretched too thin for a while and decided take a break.
and i picked my kids over my blog.
even though this is technically for them, to document there growing- upness
(i think i just made that word up)
and whatnot.
oh well.
don't judge me.

so trying to get back into the groove of things i decided to have fun with it!
my friend kellie (hi kellie!) is doing a thirty day song challenge on her
facebook page and i found myself looking forward to her posts!
so that's what we're doing for the next thirty days errebody
(yes i meant to spell it like that, that's how it sounded in my head.)

you and me and some of the best music of all time.
and the worst.
and the funniest.
and maybe not of all time...
oh, you're smart people, you get the drift...

i'm super excited to do this because saying that music is important in my life would be the biggest understatement of the century...
ok, maybe that's exaggerating.
but it is the biggest understatement of, at least, the last week.

but seriously, i relate music to everything.
i have songs for when i'm happy, sad, in a weird mood, ready to party, ready to dance, car music, blogging music, everything.

i've never understood people who don't listen to music in the car.
or you're riding with someone and tell them this is you're favorite song and then they try to have a long heart to heart conversation with you.
don't get me wrong, i love me a good heart to heart.
but can't it wait until after my jam?

and an added bonus...
since i grew up dancing, i constantly relate songs to choreography or choreograph songs i love in my head or i may watch a music video so many times i accidentally learn the choreography...just by seeing it so many times.
it's a gift dancers have. take what you see and make your body do it.
so i'm not crazy or anything...well at least that's not what makes me crazy.

so here we go.
day one.
"You're Favorite Song"
a.k.a. the impossible.
i can never pick a favorite song because...
 a) i have such a broad range in music, i have to have favorites in all the different genres and,
 b) that's like asking me to choose my favorite child.
can't be done.

so i'll choose my current pop favorite, mostly because i love the music video
and a song i can't seem to be sick of.

Katy Perry - Last Friday Night T.G.I.F.
so many good cameos in this video!
you've got glee members...
80s stars...
rebecca black...
and kenny g...?!
awesome cameo overload, people!

Justin Timberlake - My Love
this song never ceases to amaze me.
the musicality of it is...just. so. awesome.
in my opinion.
i still get excited when it comes on the radio.
can't go wrong with jt. ever.

i already see more than one video per post in my future.
sheesh.
alright peeps. (yup i just said peeps.)
 see you back here tomorrow.
and happy sepTUNESber!

4 months old!

my sweet cora fayne (a.k.a. beaner girl),

you are 4 months old!
you are the cutest thing I have ever seen.
you are starting to sit up on your own, but your legs are so chunky if you sit for too long they go purple. :-) true story.
you like to sit in your johnny jump up, which we call the JUMPHANG!, but you don't really jump yet...
you just sit back, relax, watch your brothers and play with the toys.
you love your brothers and laugh when they are silly.
and you always have lots of smiles for mommy and daddy.
we love you so much and are so filled with joy to have you in our lives.
happy four months, baby girl one.

xoxo, mommy

p.s. hi everyone! sorry i've been MIA as of late. super busy! and i decided it was more important to do one thing at a time well, than a whole bunch of things crappy.
but, i've missed blogging and will hopefully be back soon.
i plan to do something fun for september! stay tuned!

new tattoo...

so i got a new tattoo...
i'm sure most of you saw a sneak peak of it in my last
{hot mama} pics, but i wanted to share a little more of the background story with you.

so a little over a year ago my nana passed away.
now she wasn't just your plain old, jane old nana.
she. was. awesome.

i've never met a person with so much joy in all my life.
even while dying of stage four ovarian cancer,
she would joke, laugh, smile and sing.
sure she had some rough moments, too.
it's a hard disease.
but even still,
 to the end,
she was truly a magnificent person.
an absolute joy to be around.

so on the one year anniversary of her passing,
my sister and i decided to honor her memory with a tattoo.

we talked about all sorts of designs, but ultimately decided on a butterfly,
with the body being the ovarian cancer awareness ribbon.

we decided on the butterfly because of it's beauty,
which seems so reflective of my nana and her soul.
and also, her name fayne actually means joy...
and in many  cultures a butterfly symbolizes joy.

so we sent our ideas to gary over at memorial tattoo
(you should go to him if you live in atlanta!)
and he drew up this awesome tattoo for us.

working on the outline

waiting patiently, can't wait to see it!

all done! a little red, but beautiful!

now it's my sister's turn! it's her first tattoo. love me a newbie. :)

she did so awesome! she didn't cry or anything.

all done!

the whole time i was there i couldn't stop wondering what my nana was up in heaven thinking...
my sister and i decided it was one of two things:
1. she thinks it's beautiful and is so touched by wanting to remember her for forever, or;
2. she's thinking, "you dumb asses."

either of which would be totally my nana. :)

either way, i love it, and i can't wait to tell my children about how special of a person she was to me when they ask what it means.

happy tuesday y'all!
